2007 Senate Bill 638

Repeal driver responsibility fees

Introduced in the Senate

July 17, 2007

Introduced by Sen. John Gleason (D-27)

To repeal the “driver responsibility fees” or “bad driver fees” tacked on to various traffic violations and paid to the state, which were imposed as a revenue-raising measure in 2003. Reportedly only around 42 percent of the fees are actually collected, and they have imposed hardships on those unable to pay traffic offense fines as high as $2,000 over two years.
