2007 Senate Bill 953

Allow beauty shop shampooing after 350 hours of training

Introduced in the Senate

Dec. 5, 2007

Introduced by Sen. Gretchen Whitmer (D-23)

To revise a prohibition on an unlicensed person doing shampooing in a cosmetology establishment (barber shop or hair salon), so as to allow a “senior cosmetology student” to do shampooing if the individual has already taken 350 hours of classes on client safety, sanitation, bacteriology, hair and scalp disorders, scalp manipulations, and proper shampooing procedure. Under current law, only licensed cosmetologists who have 1,500 hours of training may do shampooing.
