2008 Senate Bill 1079

Revise village, city and township annexation and detachment procedures

Introduced in the Senate

Feb. 5, 2008

Introduced by Sen. Patricia Birkholz (R-24)

To revise procedures for the annexation of general law township property to a city or village. The bill is part of a legislative package comprised of Senate Bills 1078 to 1083 that establish detailed rules, timetables and procedures for annexing township property to a village or city, or detaching village or city property to a township, including a referendum under certain circumstances. Among other things these would require good-faith negotiation on tax sharing, land use planning, services, etc. For details see Senate Fiscal Agency analysis.
