2008 Senate Bill 1545

Cross-check no-fault auto insurance coverage

Introduced in the Senate

Sept. 25, 2008

Introduced by Sen. Dennis Olshove (D-9)

To implement a system for cross-checking vehicle registrations and no-fault insurance coverage. Under Michigan’s no-fault insurance law drivers are required to have insurance in order to register and operate a vehicle, but there is no system to monitor whether the insurance is cancelled after registration. The vehicle registration would be canceled of a person who fails to present evidence of insurance within 14 days of receiving a notice from the Secretary of State advising of insurance cancellation.
