2008 Senate Resolution 211

"Discipline" members for breech of protocol

Offered in the Senate

June 28, 2008

Offered by Sen. Mike Bishop (R-12)

To remove Sen. Patterson from the Senate Government Operations Committee, Sen. Schauer from the Government Operations Committee and the Campaign and Election Oversight Committee, and Sen. Whitmer from the Senate Judiciary Committee, and reduce the number of members on the Judiciary and Government Operations Committees. This is "punishment" doled out by the Sen. Majority Leader to these three members, who on June 19 took advantage of the temporary absense of several majority (Republican) members to orchestrate a vote to "discharge" Senate Bill 124 and House Bills 5779 and 5859 from committee and directly to the Senate floor for a vote.

Motion by Sen. Tony Stamas (R-36)

To bring the resolution to a vote, bypassing normal procedures.

The motion passed 20 to 13 (details)
