Establish conditions for property tax “poverty exemption”

To establish a $200,000 home value cap on a local government granting a principal residence property tax “poverty exemption,” ban the exemption for an individual who has an ownership interest in other real estate, authorize expanded reviews of the exemptions, and establish penalties for fraudulently claiming an exemption. The bill would also require criminal background checks for members of the board that grants these exemptions, ban relatives of a the city council from being on the board, ban individuals with outstanding tax liens, and ban members from participating in granting exemptions to relatives or affiliates.
