2009 Senate Bill 522

Transfer Department of History, Arts, and Libraries programs to other departments

Introduced in the Senate

April 30, 2009

Introduced by Sen. Ron Jelinek (R-21)

To transfer programs currently managed by the Department of History, Arts, and Libraries to other state departments, mostly the Secretary of State. The legislative package (Senate Bills 503 to 527) would abolish the department and retain almost all of it’s programs in other agencies as proposed by Gov. Jennifer Granholm, but the governor and Senate differ on which programs go to which agencies. This bill revises references to HAL in the law that authorizes the state to acquire and maintain historic sites for use by the public.
