2009 Senate Bill 657

Establish government pension board travel regulations

Introduced in the Senate

June 23, 2009

Introduced by Sen. Jud Gilbert (R-25)

To restrict out-of-state travel by members of local government or school pension boards to certain limited purposes specified in the bill (such as for “specialized staff training essential to performing the duties”), and require these pension boards to post on the internet annual travel reports listing who traveled where and why, with itemized expenses including food, lodging, and vehicle rentals, that list the names of hotels, restaurants, and vehicle models. The bill was introduced following reports by the Detroit Free Press exposing an excessive-travel expense scandal involving Detroit city employee pension board members.
