2011 Senate Bill 793

Require competitive bidding for large state leases

Introduced in the Senate

Nov. 2, 2011

Introduced by Sen. Rick Jones (R-24)

To require state government leases of land or buildings that cost more than $100,000 annually, or $2,000 per month for less than two years, be put out for competitive bidding, with the bid solicitation stated “in the most general terms that will the agency’s needs.” The bill comes after intense criticism a few years prior of an annual $3.7 million lease of a new State Police headquarters in downtown Lansing owned by prominent Democratic Party contributor Joel Ferguson and Republican contributor Gary Granger.
