To allow an individual to choose to automatically contribute $5 or more from his or her state income tax refund to pay for unspecified expenses related to executing “Amber alerts,” which disseminate useful information about a missing child to law enforcement agencies, radio and television stations. The checkoff would have the effect of reducing the amount of a person’s tax refund. A person not receiving a refund could use his or her tax return to contribute to the program. This bill creates a fund to hold the money.
