To enable the personal representative of a deceased person to exercise control and rights related to the person’s “digital property,” which could include social media accounts (like Facebook) and much more. to address what happens when a person dies or becomes legally incompetent to his or her social media accounts, online “transactional service” accounts, online forms and applications, online terms-of-service agreements, and other forms of “digital property.” The bills would afford the person’s representative access and authority to use usernames, passwords, etc.
