To give courts the power to prohibit an individual from purchasing a firearm, and to order police to search seize any firearms the individual possesses, if a petition for this is filed by a person with whom the target has or had a domestic or “close” relationship, and the court determines there is “reasonable cause to believe that the defendant poses a significant risk of personal injury to himself or herself or others” based on evidence provided in the petition.
