To increase and index to inflation a “training” wage provided as an exception to the law that makes it unlawful to employ a worker for less than a minimum wage determined by the government. The bill would also increase the age limit on this exception, from 17 and younger to 19 and younger. Under current law, during a young worker’s first 90 days on the job the mandated minimum wage is $4.25 per hour, which the bill would increase to $6.25 per hour. After 90 days the mandated minimum is 85 percent of the amount prescribed for adult workers.
