The executive recommendation for an “omnibus” non-education state government budget for the fiscal year that begins on Oct. 1, 2017. This would appropriate $39.930 billion, compared to $38.818 billion authorized the year before. Of this amount, $22.870 billion is federal money, and $17.060 billion comes from state taxpayers. The education portion of the budget (K-12, community colleges and state universities) is in Senate Bill 217 and House Bill 4369, and proposes spending another $16.337 billion. <br> Combined, the Governor proposes to spend $56.267 billion next year, vs. $54.443 billion originally approved for the current year.
