2019 Senate Bill 600

Replace Algebra 2 graduation requirement, revise others

Introduced in the Senate

Oct. 24, 2019

Introduced by Sen. Jon Bumstead (R-34)

To eliminate a requirement that students take Algebra 2 as a condition of getting a public high school diploma, and instead let students take a different course, including but not limited to trigonometry, statistics, precalculus, calculus, applied math, accounting, business math, “financial literacy,” or any other course the local school board deems “appropriate” for meeting standards for these subjects the Department of Education would be required to produce. The bill also lists science sub-field courses that meet a current three-credit “science” requirement, revises social studies course requirements and makes other changes to this law.
