2020 Senate Bill 792

Revise judicial retirement system details

Introduced in the Senate

Feb. 13, 2020

Introduced by Sen. Tom Barrett (R-24)

To prescribe a slightly more rigorous methodology for determining the amount of prefunding required to avoid accumulating unfunded liabilities in the judges retirement system; also permit certain employees in workplaces covered by this system to contribute 2 percent of pay in return for specified retirement benefits and get an employer match for these contributions. The bill would also convert the system’s current defined contribution 401k type retirement saving plan option to one that automatically enrolls new employees, including taking payroll deductions with the employer match, unless the employee opts out.
