To repeal a provision of the law authorizing the state’s adoption of the Obamacare Medicaid expansion that made continuation of this multi-billion dollar addition to the state’s medical welfare system contingent on it saving the state money after the law’s state cost-sharing provisions kicked-in, which mean the state must now pay 10% of the total cost. This state’s version of the expansion was dubbed “Healthy Michigan,” and has enrolled approximately 50% more beneficiaries that originally claimed. This has added to the projected costs, even as the program has allowed the state to offload some previous medical welfare system costs onto federal taxpayers instead of state ones.
