To permit a student to skip the foreign language courses required for a Michigan public high school diploma if he or she instead takes courses in “visual arts, performing arts, or applied arts” as defined by government education experts; or a computer science and coding class; or a state-approved career and technical education program. Courses in American Sign Language would also fill the requirement.
