2021 House Bill 4873

“Miranda rights” and more for juveniles under arrest

Introduced in the House

May 18, 2021

Introduced by Rep. Sarah Anthony (D-68)

To require that a parent, guardian, custodian or the lawyer of a juvenile in police custody must be notified before the individual may be questioned, and make any admissions inadmissible in court if these rules are not followed. The bill places in statute for minors the usual “Miranda rights” requirement that applies to an adult being arrested.
