To prohibit auto insurers from using the zip code where a vehicle is regularly kept (“garaged”) as a factor in pricing coverage, and require insurers to notify customers of the “rating plan” that offers the lowest premium based. The bill would also amend this section of the insurance code to remove the word “sex” from a ban on using this as a factor in setting rates, and replace it with a ban on “a rating category on the basis of which a person would be prohibited from discriminating against an individual under the Elliott-Larsen civil rights act”.
