To make gas station owners and operators subject to fines and mandated court appearances if someone complains they charged an “excessively increased price” for fuel “during or reasonably after a market disruption.” The bill would authorize prosecutors to compel relevant testimony, prosecute failures to appear, order customer reimbursements, levy fines for failure to comply (styled as “damages”), and more. Charging an “excessively increased price” during a market disruption would be subject to a year in prison and $10,000 fine for an individual, and a $1 million fine for a corporation.
