To revise the process by which fire departments are required to cover the cost of various cancers or other illnesses contracted by current or former employees, under a legal presumption that the illness was contracted in the course of the individual’s employment. Grants of such legal presumptions have been broadened beyond firefighters in recent decades to include certain other public employees.
