2022 House Bill 6518

Revise statutory references to “a minister of the gospel”

Introduced in the House

Nov. 29, 2022

Introduced by Rep. Yousef Rabhi (D-53)

To revise a law establishing the duty of all law enforcement officers and “all presiding elders, and ministers of the gospel” who may be “present at the meeting of any assembly for religious worship” that is interrupted or disturbed by an individual “to apprehend the offender and take him or her” before a court. The bill would remove references to gospels and instead apply the provision to both religious gatherings and those of a "secular organization" that “occupies a place in the lives of the organization's members parallel to that filled by a church or particular religious authority”.
