A bill to amend 1927 PA 175, entitled “The code of criminal procedure,” by amending section 12 of chapter IX (MCL 769.12), as amended by 2012 PA 319.
Enhances sentencing guidelines for individuals convicted of a subsequent felony after having been previously convicted of any combination of three or more felonies or attempts to commit felonies. The enhancements include mandatory minimum sentences for serious crimes, potential life sentences for felonies punishable by five years or more, and a maximum of 15 years for felonies with a lesser first conviction penalty. The bill also specifies sentencing for major controlled substance offenses, conditions for parole eligibility, and sentence enhancement restrictions.
