An act to amend 1931 PA 328, entitled “An act to revise, consolidate, codify, and add to the statutes relating to crimes; to define crimes and prescribe the penalties and remedies; to provide for restitution under certain circumstances; to provide for the competency of evidence at the trial of persons accused of crime; to provide immunity from prosecution for certain witnesses appearing at criminal trials; to provide for liability for damages; and to repeal certain acts and parts of acts inconsistent with or contravening any of the provisions of this act,” by amending sections 520d, 520e, and 520l (MCL 750.520d, 750.520e, and 750.520l), sections 520d and 520e as amended by 2012 PA 372 and section 520l as amended by 2023 PA 77.
Among other things, the bills make 18 the legal age to marry and prohibit marriage by people younger than 18; remove references to marriage involving a minor; eliminate marriage as an automatic factor for emancipation; and remove marriage-related exceptions from certain criminal sexual conduct prohibitions.
