A bill to create the school safety guardian program; to provide for the certification and recertification of certain individuals as school guardians; to require the promulgation of rules; and to provide for the powers and duties of certain state and local governmental officers and entities.
The bill proposes the creation of the School Safety Guardian Program in Michigan, aimed at certifying individuals as school guardians to help prevent or mitigate active assailant incidents on school premises. These guardians, who may be school employees or personnel, are required to complete a 144-hour training program, pass a psychological evaluation, an initial drug test, and fulfill weapon inspection and firearm qualification.
