House Fiscal Agency Analysis

House Bill 4448 would create a new act to designate Lunar New Year as a holiday in Michigan. Specifically, the legislature would declare that the second new moon after the winter solstice (or the third new moon after the winter solstice if an intercalary month1 intervenes), according to the Chinese calendar, shall be known as Lunar New Year, a holiday celebrated by those of Chinese, Korean, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, and other East or Southeast Asian origins.
