A bill to amend 1931 PA 328, entitled “The Michigan penal code,” by amending section 230 (MCL 750.230).
This bill prohibits altering, removing, or obliterating firearm identification marks and mandates serial numbers on all manufactured, sold, or transferred firearms or frames/receivers. Violations range from misdemeanors to felonies, based on the offense's nature and recurrence. Exceptions are made for antique firearms, permanently inoperable firearms, federally licensed transactions, law enforcement, and certain federally authorized activities.
