A bill to amend 1961 PA 236, entitled “Revised judicature act of 1961,” by amending section 5513 (MCL 600.5513), as added by 1999 PA 147.
Requires a day-for-day sentence reduction in each month that an inmate does not commit “major misconduct”. Credits earned must be applied to the minimum and maximum sentence length, as well as to the parole eligibility date once half a prisoner’s sentence has been served. These bills reward criminal behavior behind bars and increase the likelihood that prisoners will be released back into our communities before reforming the behavior that got them incarcerated in the first place.
