2023 House Bill 4505

Health occupations: physical therapists; licensing process; modify to incorporate physical therapy licensing compact.

A bill to amend 1978 PA 368, entitled “Public health code,” by amending section 17801 (MCL 333.17801), as amended by 2009 PA 55, and by adding sections 17820a and 17820b.

House Fiscal Agency Analysis

House Bills 4504 and 4505 would amend the Public Health Code to enter Michigan into the Physical Therapy Licensure Compact (PTLC), which allows physical therapists to practice physical therapy in states that are parties to the compact without having to be licensed in each individual state.1 (A compact is like a contract between states that states enter into by enacting its provisions as law.) House Bill 4504 would make Michigan a party to the PTLC, and House Bill 4505 would make related changes to the code’s physical therapy licensure provisions.
