A bill to amend 1956 PA 218, entitled “The insurance code of 1956,” by amending sections 3151 and 3153 (MCL 500.3151 and 500.3153), section 3151 as amended by 2019 PA 22, and by adding section 3151a.
This bill sets forth conditions under which individuals claiming personal protection insurance benefits may undergo mental or physical examinations by a physician. These physicians must be licensed, and specialists are required to share the same specialty as the treating physician and meet certain professional criteria. The legislation proposes the creation of a no-fault independent medical examination board within the department, consisting of members appointed by the governor, including a state bar member and physicians from various specialties.
