House Bill 4903 would amend 1913 PA 188, which regulates hotels, to require hotels to notify customers regarding fees for smoking in a hotel room and, if requested, to inspect a room before a customer checks out of it to determine whether any smoking fees will be assessed. Specifically, the owner, manager, agent, or individual in charge of a hotel in Michigan could not rent or lease a room there unless they have done all of the following: • Given the person renting the room a written schedule of the fees charged for smoking in a room in the hotel. • Verbally instructed the person to review and sign the fee schedule. • Left a copy of the fee schedule in a conspicuous area in every room at the hotel. • Posted a copy of the fee schedule in a conspicuous place at the hotel.
