House Bill 4945 would amend the sentencing guidelines provisions in the Code of Criminal Procedure to make complementary changes to citations and the language describing violations of section 224f of the Michigan Penal Code (i.e., possessing a firearm or ammunition when prohibited by the section). The sentencing guidelines now refer to the possession or sale of a firearm or ammunition by a “felon.” The bill would change this to a “prohibited person.” The bill cannot take effect unless HB 4946 is also enacted.
