A bill to amend 1979 PA 94, entitled “The state school aid act of 1979,” (MCL 388.1601 to 388.1896) by adding section 101a.
Recognizes recess as instructional time for students in grades K-5, with the possibility of inclusion for students above grade 5, under specific conditions. These conditions include that recess must not be used for disciplinary reasons, should not include electronic device usage unless specified in a student's individual education plan, and must consist of unstructured play. Additionally, the duration of recess is defined based on the length of the school day, ensuring a minimum of 30 minutes for days longer than 5 hours, or a proportionate duration for shorter days.
