A bill to amend 1927 PA 175, entitled “The code of criminal procedure,” by amending section 16g of chapter XVII (MCL 777.16g), as amended by 2020 PA 50.
Updates to the classifications and penalties for a range of felonies including offenses related to child abuse, endangerment, female genital mutilation, the production, distribution, or possession of child sexually abusive material, and crimes involving the use of the internet or computer to commit certain offenses. Additionally, it addresses crimes against vulnerable adults, including various degrees of abuse and exploitation, and introduces specific categories, classes, and maximum statutory penalties for these crimes, which vary from misdemeanors to felonies, some carrying life imprisonment.
