This bill amends the 1945 PA 327 related to aeronautics in the state. The amendment revises section 80f to prohibit individuals from possessing or carrying firearms, explosives, knives, razors, box cutters, or any dangerous weapons in the sterile areas of commercial airports. Violations are classified as misdemeanors, punishable by up to 1 year in prison or a fine up to $1,000, with potential elevation to a felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison or a fine up to $10,000, under certain circumstances. Exceptions are made for peace officers, Department of Corrections employees, members of the U.S. military, national guard, armed forces reserves, other duly authorized military organizations, security personnel enforcing federal regulations, court officers, and authorized airline or airport employees. Additionally, this section does not preclude charging or convicting individuals for other violations committed while violating this section, and imprisonment terms may be served consecutively for violations arising from the same transaction.
