A bill to amend 1980 PA 300, entitled “The public school employees retirement act of 1979,” by amending section 61 (MCL 38.1361), as amended by 2022 PA 184.
The bill mandates that retirees receiving a retirement allowance who become employed at a reporting unit will forfeit their retirement allowance and health care benefits subsidy for each month of employment, with these benefits resuming upon termination of employment. Exceptions are provided for retirees under certain conditions, such as bona fide termination of employment and specific employment scenarios, including coaching or officiating interscholastic athletics without exceeding $10,000 in earnings per calendar year.
