A bill to amend 1978 PA 368, entitled “Public health code,” by amending section 20165 (MCL 333.20165), as amended by 2008 PA 39, and by adding sections 17233 and 21526.
The bill prohibits hospitals from requiring nurses to work overtime and mandates 8 consecutive hours of rest after shifts of 12 or more hours. It also introduces penalties for health facilities that fail to comply, including administrative fines, and requires hospitals to inform nurses of their rights under this legislation and the procedure for filing complaints.
