A bill to amend 1976 PA 331, entitled “Michigan consumer protection act,” by amending section 3 (MCL 445.903), as amended by 2022 PA 152.
The bill aims to enhance consumer protections by addressing a wider range of deceptive practices, including misleading representations about the source, characteristics, or environmental claims of products; disparaging competitors through false facts; advertising without the intent to sell as advertised; and exploiting consumers' vulnerabilities such as disability, illiteracy, or language barriers. It also specifies requirements for disclosures in prize promotions, prohibits certain practices in home solicitation and telephone solicitation sales, restricts the conditions under which a consumer's Social Security number can be requested, and sets guidelines for the handling of credit or debit card information in consumer transactions.
