A bill to amend 1978 PA 454, entitled “Truth in renting act,” by amending sections 2 and 3 (MCL 554.632 and 554.633), section 3 as amended by 1998 PA 72.
Redefines "rent" to include the cost of essential services for the use or occupancy of a rental unit, such as utilities and maintenance services. It clarifies the definitions of "rental agreement" and "residential premises," and sets forth prohibited provisions in rental agreements, including waivers of rights related to habitability, security deposits, discrimination, and legal procedures, as well as clauses that unfairly impose legal costs, alter eviction proceedings, or allow for unreasonable charges or fees.
