Whereas, An equitable and effective system of free public-school education for all students is essential to our democratic system of government; and
Whereas, The United States of America and the state of Michigan have made considerable progress in the social, technological, and scientific fields due to our system of free and universal public education; and
Whereas, Much of this progress can be attributed to dedicated and hard-working teachers who are entrusted with the educational development of our children; and
Whereas, Teachers should be held with high esteem, as they reflect the value our community places on public education; and
Whereas, Teachers hold an important role nationwide, as they are significant factors in shaping children and youth; and
Whereas, Teachers are deserving of recognition for their tireless efforts and their commitment to educating students; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare May 6-10 as Teacher Appreciation Week in the state of Michigan.
