2024 House Resolution 316

A resolution of tribute for the Honorable Graham Filler.

Whereas, We take this opportunity to honor Representative Graham Filler as he brings to a close his tenure of service to the people of Michigan as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives. Throughout the last six years, Representative Filler has exhibited leadership within the Legislature and dedication to his constituents in the Ninety-third District, which encompasses portions of Clinton, Gratiot, Ionia, Montcalm, and Saginaw counties; and

Whereas, Elected to the House of Representatives in 2018, Representative Filler entered public service with a wealth of experience in law. He earned a juris doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy and graduated from Miami University with a bachelor’s degree in law, politics, and history. As an Assistant Attorney General for both the Michigan Attorney General’s Office and the Michigan Public Service Commission, he garnered expertise that has been valuable in his service to the Legislature; and

Whereas, Representative Filler served as the chair of the Judiciary Committee for two terms, where he worked diligently to improve the administration of justice within the state. Notably, he earned national attention for spearheading reforms to expand the number of individuals eligible for expungement. He also endorsed civil asset forfeiture reforms, protections for businesses from COVID-19 liability, revisions to Michigan’s sex offender registry, and the preservation of background checks in the state; and

Whereas, In addition to serving on the Judiciary Committee, Representative Filler served as the minority vice chair of the Criminal Justice Committee and as a member of the House committees on Agriculture, Elections and Ethics, Energy, Health Policy, and Regulatory Reform. Representative Filler has been a strong advocate of ensuring Michigan families have access to reliable and affordable energy sources. During his time in office, he led the effort to commission an independent study on nuclear energy generation in Michigan. He has also been an ardent proponent of agriculture on behalf of the Ninety-third District and Michigan farmers across the state; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we offer this expression of admiration and thanks to the Honorable Graham Filler for his service to the people of this state as a member of this legislative body; and be it further

Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to Representative Filler as evidence of our appreciation and best wishes.
