A bill to amend 1961 PA 236, entitled “Revised judicature act of 1961,” (MCL 600.101 to 600.9947) by adding section 2980.
Establishes that a person is liable for damages resulting from injury or death caused to a service animal, either by themselves or their own animal. Damages can include both economic (such as the value of the service animal, associated equipment, care costs, and replacement or retraining costs) and noneconomic losses (such as mental anguish and loss of companionship).
