A bill to amend 1931 PA 328, entitled “The Michigan penal code,” by amending section 159g (MCL 750.159g), as amended by 2022 PA 174.
This bill seeks to redefine "racketeering" to include a wide range of felonious activities conducted for financial gain. These activities encompass violations related to tobacco taxes, hazardous waste disposal, controlled substances, welfare and Medicaid fraud, gaming, liquor control, securities fraud, dissemination of obscene materials to minors, animal fighting, arson, bribery, child sexual abuse material, internet crimes, credit card fraud, embezzlement, explosives, extortion, false pretenses, firearms, forgery, gambling, food stamp fraud, murder, horse racing, kidnapping, larceny, money laundering, perjury, prostitution, human trafficking, robbery, stolen property, terrorism, obscenity, identity theft, organized retail crime, and any offenses that constitute racketeering activity under federal law or similar state laws. The enactment of S.B.0890 is contingent upon the passage of Senate Bill No. 888.
