A bill to provide for the creation of a vulnerable adult multidisciplinary team; to prescribe the powers and duties of a vulnerable adult multidisciplinary team; and to provide for the powers and duties of certain state and local governmental officers and entities.
Proposes the creation of vulnerable adult multidisciplinary teams in Michigan counties or regions. These teams, comprising public and private professionals, are tasked with protecting vulnerable adults. They are authorized to share information among team members while maintaining confidentiality and can disclose information to specific entities such as adult protective services, the attorney general, and law enforcement. The teams' records are exempt from the Freedom of Information Act and their meetings are not subject to the Open Meetings Act. The bill also defines the composition and duties of these teams, which include representatives from various fields such as legal services, mental health, finance, and forensic accounting. The teams aim to prevent, investigate, and prosecute abuse and financial exploitation, coordinate services, develop prevention programs, promote community awareness, and disseminate information on abuse, neglect, and treatment options for vulnerable adults.
