2006 Senate Bill 1017 ↩
House Roll Call 1289:
Passed
To allow a public school pension system member to name a second spouse as his or her beneficiary if a first spouse predeceases him or her, and allow naming a spouse as beneficiary if the marriage occurs after the start of the pension. The benefit payments would be lowered to be the actuarial equivalent of the amount the person would get under a straight retirement benefit with no additional payments to be made upon his or her death. Also, to allow individuals performing out-of-system public education service, and members of the State Employees' Retirement System (as well as members of the Public School Employees Retirement System, as is currently provided), to purchase up to five years of service "credits" (which increase the person's pension benefits) for time missed because of maternity, paternity, or child rearing.
