To allow counties to change the name of the Drain Commission office to the to “water resources commissioner,” if the drain commission is also tasked with operating sewers, lake level and soil erosion enforcement, and facilitating compliance with federal Clean Water Act mandates. The bill would also allow a county commission to increase the amount of the performance bond it may require the drain commissioner to post, from $5,000 to $100,000. The bill would also allow a county to appoint a temporary drain commissioner if the regular one becomes ill or is otherwise unable to perform the functions of the office.
