Amendment offered
To replace the previous version of the bill with one that would amend state election law to ensure that, notwithstanding the tight time frame, the Detroit ballot measure proposed by House Bill 6114 will be on the August 2002 primary ballot in that city. The proposal is on whether to abolish the current nine-member at-large city council, and replace it with a council elected from nine single-member election districts, with the apportionment determined by a redistricting commission composed of two members appointed by the mayor and one appointed by the city council.
