2001 House Bill 5466 ↩
Senate Roll Call 693:
Passed
To eliminate the requirement that a space for the post office of an elector signing a ballot access petition be included on the petition form. The form would just require a space for the elector’s name, street address or rural route, city or township, and zip code. The bill was amended to make it a legislative "vehicle" to amend state election law to ensure that, notwithstanding the tight time frame, the Detroit ballot measure proposed by House Bill 6114 will be on the August 2002 primary ballot in that city. The proposal is on whether to abolish the current nine-member at-large city council, and replace it with a council elected from nine single-member election districts, with the apportionment determined by a redistricting commission composed of two members appointed by the mayor and one appointed by the city council.
