2005 House Bill 4171 / 2006 Public Act 147

Authorize landlord’s labor reimbursement

Introduced in the House

Feb. 2, 2005

Introduced by Rep. John Pastor (R-19)

To allow a court to order reimbursement for a landlord’s own labor when making repairs to property damaged by an evicted tenant. Under current law a landlord can seek damages for the cost of paying a contractor to do the work. The bill would allow reimbursement from the tenant at the same rate the landlord would have to pay to hire someone else to do the repairs, within reason.

Referred to the Committee on Judiciary

Feb. 1, 2006

Reported without amendment

With the recommendation that the substitute (H-3) be adopted and that the bill then pass.

Amendment offered by Rep. John Pastor (R-19)

It would also allow reimbursement in a similar manner for labor expended by a tenant doing repairs a landlord had been ordered to perform.
